PRESCOTT — The Prescott Curley Wolves took possession of the football and made little progress against the Drew Central Pirates on the first play. But Wolf quarterback C.J. Smith got the ball to James Colbert who made a 50-yard run for the first touchdown with less than a minute into the game.
That started a barrage of points for Prescott, which beat Drew Central 41-0 after taking a 34-0 halftime lead on Friday night.
The Pirates seemed in a hurry to try to recover but the Wolves’ defense put an end to that and took over on downs. Less than two minutes from the first touchdown, the Wolves scored their second. With Juan Duran’s kicks on the point after the Wolves led, 14-0.
The Pirates took control at midfield on downs and managed to push to within 10 yards of a touchdown. A fumble on second down from that point could have turned over but the Pirates managed to hold onto the ball. The third down and fourth down was incomplete and the Wolves took over at their own 9-yard line and were able to get a first down at the 23-yard line. C.J. Smith was unable to find an open receiver and Tyler Stuart was credited with the sack. Colbert took the next play for a slight gain but there was not another score in the first quarter.
The Wolves took up the play at the beginning of the second down and Colbert made the run but was stopped by the Pirates near midfield. The Wolves were unable to capitalize on their position and handed the ball over to the Pirates on downs.
The Wolves got another touchdown while their defense refused to give any room to the Pirates.
The Pirates held to control on their next possession and a penalty drove them back. Smith made the tackle just at the original line of scrimmage and the Pirates were unable to make the push on the next play, so they found themselves with a fourth-and-11 yards to go. Drew Central punted and Prescott’s Balance made the return for a touchdown and the Wolves led 34-0 with about two minutes left in the half.
Prescott scored once more in the second half to finish the rout.
Drew Central (2-6, 1-4 7-3A Conference) plays at Fouke next week and finishes the season at Harmony Grove on Nov. 5.
