ZEBRAS TRAMPLE ‘JACKETS

Claude Johnson threw two first-quarter touchdown passes and Pine Bluff scored three more times in the second quarter as it cruised to a 42-6 win over Sheridan on Friday night at Jordan Stadium.
The Zebras had 420 yards of total offense, most of which were gained during the first two quarters. They led 14-6 after the first quarter and 36-6 at halftime.
Johnson connected with Justin Bishop for a 61-yard touchdown pass to start the scoring and, after Johnson ran for the two-point conversion Pine Bluff (4-4, 3-2 6A-South Conference) led 8-0. Less than two minutes later, Johnson again found Bishop, this time from 20 yards out to take a 14-0 lead.
Alden Fletcher then gave the Yellowjacket (3-5, 2-3) their only score of the game when his 61-yard dash got them within 14-6. Fletcher led Sheridan with 98 yards on 15 carries while filling in for usual starter Tyler Cole, who left the game with an injury. Cole had just two carries for 9 yards.
Bishop then returned a punt 46 yards for his third touchdown of the game and, after another Johnson two-point run, Pine Bluff led 22-6.
Martavious Alford and Hakeem Stewart also scored on runs of 17 and 6 yards, respectively, to give Pine Bluff the 36-6 halftime lead.
The Zebras final score of the game came on the first play of the third quarter when Johnson connected with Kelsey Collins for the 57-yard score.
Johnson finished 8-of-11 passing for 276 yards and three touchdowns. Jalen Dabner led the Zebras with 74 yards rushing on nine carries. The Zebras had 144 rushing yards as a team on 24 carries.
Frazier caught three passes for 93 yards, Bishop two for 81 and Collins had the one long touchdown reception.
Sheridan’s Eric Eggburn was 11-of-19 for 77 yards and threw a pair of interceptions.
Pine Bluff and Sheridan each entered as part of a four-way tie for third place in the 6A-South Conference. The Zebras are now tied with Watson Chapel, which beat Texarkana 30-6 on Friday, for third place and Texarkana and Sheridan are tied for fourth.
The Zebras play at Little Rock J.A. Fair next week and Sheridan hosts Watson Chapel.
