LIONS CLIP CARDINALS’ WINGS; D’WAY STILL MINUS WINS

Dollarway Cardinals remain winless as they lost to the Hamburg Lions 15-14 Friday night at Cardinal Stadium. The Lions are now 4-4 for the year and 2-3 in the 8-4A Conference.
The Cardinals scored first with 9:21 in the second quarter on a 6-yard run by Tevin Tyson. Trey Daniels added the point after for an 8-0 Dollarway lead.
The score remained 8-0 at the half. With 50 seconds left in the third quarter, the Lions got on the scoreboard on a 19-yard pass from Austin Fitts to Gage Rice. Fitts rushed to tie the score at 8. The Cardinals responded with a touchdown on a 31-yard run by Daniels. Bryant West came up short on the two-point conversion for a 14-8 Dollarway lead.
The Lions took the lead with 8:38 left in the game on a 1-yard run by Fitts. Crystion Mavarrete kicked the point after to make the score 15-14.
The Cardinals drove deep into Hamburg territory but on fourth-and-goal from the 20, Hamburg’s Chase Higginbotham intercepted a pass. The Lions then ran out the clock for the win.
Dollarway’s leading rusher was Daniels. He had 20 carries for 168 yards. The leading rusher for Hamburg was Chaudrian Hughes at 12 carries for 46 yards
For Dollarway, Cedric Laws had two receptions for 16 yards. For Hamburg James Morton had four receptions for 66 yards. Rice had four receptions for 42 yards.
